Child care facts about teething in Lawrenceville, GA

Posted on 06-11-2014

Infants are born with a set of 20 primary or "milk" teeth. These will start growing at approximately five months when an infant starts "teething." But this can vary with the process sometimes occurring earlier or later depending upon the infant's speed of development.

Kids 'R' Kids Learning Academy of Sugarloaf has extensive experience with infant child care, toddlers, and preschool children. We have compiled a few facts about infant teething and what parents can expect during this phase of development.

Teething Starts at Five Months

Each infant is unique as to the exact time this stage begins. The usual symptoms which will alert a parent that teething has begun include:

  • Loss of appetite
  • Drooling
  • Swollen gums
  • Crankiness
  • A mild fever, in some instances

If any of these factors becomes unmanageable, we encourage consulting a pediatrician.

Bottle Feeding Infants Who Are Teething

Continuing to bottle feed beyond what is recommended increases the incidence of cavities for infants. Sugary liquids in your child's bottle should be avoided to protect the milk teeth.
