Properly feeding your child is essential to his or her growth, both mental and physical. Giving your young child the right foods will ensure peak brain development. Young children need the right nutrients daily, and there are a number of different foods which can provide good nutrition. Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Sugarloaf lists some of the foods which will ensure your child develops in a healthy manner.

Bread, wheat and grain

Bread can be a nutritious food for children. Wheat and grain can be found in bread and a range of biscuits as well. Look for breads with little added sugars or processed ingredients and with whole grains.

Vegetables

Vegetables are very important because these have the vitamins and fiber necessary for development. Greens such as spinach and kale help brain cells grow. These can be added to omelets or included in a sandwich.

Fruits

Fruits contain natural sugars which provide energy for your child during the day. Children tend to like fruit because of the sweetness, but be careful not to give too much fruit juice, since this provides the sugars without the fiber. Apples and plums can help prevent cognitive decline.

Dairy

Milk and cheese, or other dairy products, provide calcium, which strengthens bones and teeth and promotes brain development. Add cheese to your child’s sandwich or with eggs.

Meat

Meat and fish are sources of protein for your growing child. Make a ham and cheese sandwich for lunch. A single sandwich and a piece of fruit can contain the basics needed to optimize brain development and energy for learning. Be sure to consult your physician for specific health and dietary information for your child.
